God's plan of redemption - explained
Heaven - Part 1Now you have learned from Revelation chapter 3 and Ephesians chapter 2 along with Matthew chapter 7 v 21 to 23 let us look at what heaven is like as written in scripture.
First let us look at Revelation chapter 20 which begins our study perfectly.
Verses 1 to 5 describe the New Jerusalem where we will live forever. "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth the old heaven and earth had passed away and there was no longer any sea." With the word sea here many theologians believe that this describes the fact that there is now no distance from heaven.
It goes on to say "He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more crying, pain nor death for all these things have now past away."
There is more to come.
"There we're 12 gates to the city, each made of a different precious stone." John goes on to describe twelve precious stones.
Each of these stones reflect light perfectly which powerfully emphasises the authenticity of the vision. Nobody except God knew these stones reflect light perfectly until the days of the 20th century. It describes the road in heaven as paved with gold so pure it was transparent.
John chapter 14 describes the homes where we will live as dwelling places in modern translations, but the correct description is mansions, they are mansions because no human mind could have thought up anything so magnificent.
Psalm 16 v 11 tell us that in heaven there are such pleasurable things to do so it is impossible to get bored.
Ezekiel describes a river, the river of life flowing out from the throne of God (you can read more of this in Ezekiel chapter 47).
Others have also described a part of heaven where people who have barely been known outside of the place where they live were given the opportunity of describing the wonderful things that God had done in their lives and everyone was cheering when they how God has moved in their lives.
